Questions And Answers About Buying A Yearling

Q: How do I see what yearlings are selling?
A: CLICK HERE and view the current roster. Remember - we're taking entries right up to the start of the auction on October 29, so check from time to time for the latest list of yearlings.

Q: I see the roster. How do I learn more about a particular yearling?
A: Click on the name of the horse you're interested in. If available, you'll then see the pedigree, stake engagements, photos, videos, etc.

Q: When does the auction start?
A: Friday October 29 and, on every yearling's page, you'll see a bid board which will show how much time is left to bid.

Q: Will there be reserve bids?
A: Each individual consignor decides whether to include a reserve bid.

Q: How do I bid?
A: First, register with onGait.com by clicking REGISTER on the top of the page. You'll be asked to enter your contact information so we can notify you if you're the winning bidder or not.

Q: I'm giving you my email address. Do you sell it or share it with anyone?
A: Absolutely not. The information you provide does not get distributed in any form.

Q: After registering, how do I bid?
A: Go to the page of the yearling you're interested in. Click the bid button in the middle of the screen. You will then be asked to enter your bid and, if you choose , a maximum bid.

Q: What's a maximum bid?
A: We save you the trouble of having to be in front of the computer to raise a bid. For example, after placing your bid (say $2,500), you can place a maximum bid (say $4,000). If another bidder places a bid of $2,600, onGait's computer will automatically place a bid for you of $2,700 (the lowest bid accepted). However, $4,000 would be the highest bid placed for you.

Q: What if the bidding goes above my maximum?
A: You'd have to place the next bid yourself. But you can then enter another maximum bid amount.

Q: While the auction is going on, how do I know if I'm the high bidder?
A: Below the bid button, we'll tell you whether you're the high bidder or not. You have to be logged in to see this information.

Q: It says this is an "open-ended" auction. What does that mean?
A: The term "bid sniping" is used to describe bidders who wait until the last possible moment to bid and lock out others from countering their bid. On onGait, if a bid is placed within the final five minutes of the auction, we automatically add five minutes to the clock. This allows additional bids to be placed giving everyone a fair chance to bid. The auction ends when there has been no bids within the last five minutes.

Q: Say I win the auction. What happens then?
A: You will be notified by email of the seller's contact information and the seller will get your contact information. We encourage you to connect with the seller as soon as possible to finalize the transaction.

Q: So I don't send the money to onGait?
A: No, you'll deal directly with the seller regarding the transfer of money and ownership.

Q: What if I have more questions?
A: Call Maurice toll-free at 1-866-240-RACE (7223) and he'll be happy to help.
